My
job
I
am one of the system
administrators at the
Dipartimento
di
Astronomia
/ Osservatorio
Astrofisico di
Arcetri.
This
is the page related to the
computing
resources
we administer. I would recommend
the reading of the report
"I
servizi di Calcolo presso
l'Osservatorio di
Arcetri"
(1996) if you want to know
exactly what
I
do.
If
the name "system administrator"
sounds unfamiliar to you, or you
just want to know more, here it
is a document describing in
details
the
tasks
related to my job.
From
time to time I teach in courses
about computing. Here it is, for
example, the material for a
course
on
HTML.
I
am interested in the design of
archives and data-bases
accessible via the Web. I take
part into a long term project for
making it possible to search all
the library archives of italian
astrophysical observatories
trough a common gateway. The
official name of the project is
CUBAI
(Catalogo Unico delle Biblioteche
Astronomiche
Italiane).
I
enjoy XML and I have begun to use
it to design my applications,
like this
system
for managing the calendar
of the talks given at the
Observatory.
I
have also designed the
search
page
for the historycal archive of
Arcetri Observatory. If you are
interested you can read the
implementations details in this
technical
report
(in italian). For this project I
have used tools like mSQL, Perl,
JavaScript, PerlTk and Perl DBI.
This
a
small
but dense
list
of my favourite sites about Perl
and CGI programming.
